Our Atelier (Art Studio)
At our Brighton and
Hove Nurseries
In this space we can see the unique creativity of each child
Inspired by Reggio Emilia's enquiry based approach to children's learning we have our Atelier (Art Studio),
a dedicated space with high quality materials for children to explore through a range of creative media.
We believe that children have hundreds of ways of expressing themselves and endless possibilities through
imagination and wonder...
Catherine Grimaldi
I am a Brighton based artist who has been working with early years children for the last 18 years. I trained at Central St Martins in textiles and illustration, and have three published children's books, most recently Mr Coconut.
My belief is that all the children are full of potential when they come to nursery and it is our role, along with parents and educators to unearth their own unique language.
I often provide provocations such as dinosaur bones, puppets, collections of natural objects and engineered artefacts such as bicycle wheels and typewriters to ignite childrens imaginations and generate an inquiry.
I have visited the Reggio Emilia twice to attend the International Study tour.

I’m an Atelierista at Pumpkin Patch Hove and an illustrator and animator. I love collaborating and exploring with the children, and encouraging them to find their own voices. I’m always inspired by their endless capacity for discovery, imagination and humour.
Mariana Peron
I am a Brazilian artist with a diversified background. Although I have also studied architecture, my Bachelor's degree is in Fine Arts. During my studies, my work focused mainly on transforming public spaces; installations and work with natural elements, especially water and soil.
current working within the forest school environment in South East England. I have been working with children for more than ten years now and have taken many different approaches like technology atelier and forest school. I identify myself a lot with Reggio Emilia's pedagogy regarding self guidance, using open ended materials and playful activities.
I’m an adventure person, have always loved outdoors activities such as travelling, cycling and camping and I have now been practicing yoga for six years. I believe it is very important to keep art and nature close to children to learn from its powerful wisdom, their effortless flair to be so natural.
